The Sage School of Philosophy at Cornell University invites applications for one tenure-track position at open rank, to begin July 1, 2026. AOS: Metaphysics. AOC: open. Additional research interest in philosophy of science or logic may be an asset. The teaching load is two courses per semester, with advising and service work. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in philosophy by the date of appointment. Applications received by Oct 1, 2025 are assured fullest consideration. Applicants must submit a cover letter, cv, writing sample, dissertation summary or research statement, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and at least three letters of recommendation. Founded in 1865, Cornell University now has 14 colleges and schools and is the land-grant university for the state of New York. The Sage School of Philosophy is part of the privately-endowed College of Arts and Sciences. Cornell University seeks to meet the needs of dual career couples and has a Dual Career program.

Actual salary offers in the College of Arts and Sciences will be based on education, experience, discipline, and relevant skills.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
